12 July 23
Aloha and welcome to the first Sligo Surf blog of the summer. Happy July everyone. I trust the summer is treating you well.
Myself and the hard-working Sligo Surf Experience team have been very busy behind the scenes getting everything ready for another epic summer season. Our biggest news to share with you is that Sligo Surf Experience has moved to a fantastic new location at the new National Surf Centre, right on the seafront at Strandhill Beach. Thanks to County Sligo Surf Club and the amazing local Strandhill community, the National Surf Centre is finally here after eight years of planning. The €3 million project was given life by grants from Failte Ireland and finished to an excellent standard by Arken Construction. The National Surf Centre has been described as a flagship building for the northwest to promote Sligo as a number one international surf destination. It is a huge achievement for all involved.
The National Surf Centre
What the National Surf Centre (NSC) will mean for our customers arriving for their surf lesson in Strandhill is brand new, world-class surf school facilities with changing rooms and showers designed for surfers. Legendary Irish surfer and artist, Barry Britton, contributed art to the building exterior showing Knocknarea's Queen Maeve riding the huge Sligo surf. You can also visit the new surf shop in the retail space at the front of the surf centre.Myself and the team have been delighted to welcome our customers to our new location. But on the beach it has been the same as always: simply the best surf lessons in Sligo. Our Ocean Warrior surf camps are back up and running with the support of our wonderful sponsors Good 4 U Nutrition and The Wetsuit Company Strandhill. Spaces are still available for the rest of July and August. You can sign up now using our super easy surf camp online booking system.
Please keep an eye on our social media for updates and lots of surf-related posts. Check out Sligo Surf Shop if you are interested in getting your own trendy and eco-friendly surf school hoodies and t-shirts.
