Sligo Surf and Turf Experience

Aloha and welcome to the Sligo Surf Blog

We are excited to announce our second wellness event of the year: a Surf & Turf experience in collaboration with Nourished in Nature Ireland and our friends at Knocknarea Farm. The Surf & Turf experience will be a one-day event day in Strandhill, Co.Sligo.

Surf & Turf

We will meet up on Saturday morning at Knocknarea Farm on the slopes of Knocknarea. We will get the chance to get some hands on experience at this innovative regenerative farm run on the principles of building soil and giving back to the land. Learn about no-dig farming, crop rotation and get stuck into a project with Rob and Seanie, the men behind the market! Meet some of the free-range livestock too!

Knocknarea

Next, we will go for a historical hike up Knocknarea with your guides Lucianne from Nourished in Nature Ireland and Seamus from Sligo Surf Experience. Seamus has studied the history, archeology and mythology of the local area and Lucianne will fill us in on the local plants and flowers we will see on the route. On the summit of Knocknarea there is a 5000-year-old megalithic tomb that is said to be the resting place of Queen Maeve, the legendary warrior queen of Connacht. Learn about the history of the Neolithic monuments on the Coolera Peninsula and the epic adventure of Queen Maeve.

Farm to Fork Lunch

After a full morning, we will return to the Farm to Fork lunch. Sit down and relax while you are served a beautiful chef-prepared farm fresh lunch. Lunches are usually vegetarian and use the best ingredients from what is in season at the farm. (Dietary requirements can be accommodated for). Tea and coffee will also be provided.

Surf Session

After lunch you will come visit Sligo Surf Experience surf school and get ready for your surf lesson at Strandhill Beach. Meet your local surf instructors and get changed into your wetsuit and boots. Get to the breach where your surf instructor will introduce you to your equipment and give you lots of great surfing tips. Then it is time to hit the Atlantic Ocean and catch the wave of your life at Strandhill Beach. All surf lessons are beginner-friendly and surfing equipment is provided by the surf school. Your surf lesson is a fully guided experience and all equipment is provided by the surf school.

Charity Event and Surf & Soul

Aloha and welcome to the Sligo Surf Blog

This is Seamus Mc Goldrick from Sligo Surf Experience. Myself and the team want to say a big thank you to all our friends and customers for making 2022 another great summer season. The summer may have ended, the kids may be back in school but the glorious waves in Strandhill are still here. That is one thing that will never change.

Focus Ireland fundraiser

At the end of every summer season we like to give back a little bit by organising a charity surf lesson. We have raised money for Breast Cancer Ireland, Sligo Hospice and Pieta House. This year's chosen charity is Focus Ireland, which was set up to tackle homelessness in Ireland. This world-class Irish charity was set up by Sister Stan in 1985. As a society, we need to care about our homeless. The Irish are one of the most charitable nations on Earth. But we need to tackle the problems we have in our own country first before we can help anyone else.

When: this Sunday, September 4th at 4 pm

Sligo Surf Experience blog

This is Seamus Mc Goldrick. I am the owner of Sligo Surf Experience in Strandhill and a team rider with Science bodyboards. As well as being a professional bodyboarder and a busy surf school manager, I love to write. I am also passionate about sharing the history of Sligo surfing and Strandhill village and the Coolera peninsula. I want to use my blog to share lots of surfing hints, tips and techniques with you. I'll give you an insiders guide to the Sligo surfing scene and let you know about all the fun things to do in Sligo. There is more to County Sligo than just surfing. Sligo is situated along the surf coast of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.

Sligo is known as Ireland's Adventure Capital so there are lots of things to do in Sligo. There are plenty of unique Sligo walks, you can go on an adventure on Lough Gill with Sligo Kayak Tours or experience hiking and biking adventures over the Ox Mountains.

Strandhill is also an excellent foodie destination. You can also chill in Strandhill as there is lots of wellness offerings too like yoga, massage and spa treatments. You can also dive into the history and heritage of Strandhill by visiting Dolly's Cottage, exploring the Killaspugbron Loop or visiting the resting place of a warrior queen by taking the Queen Maeve trail to the top of Knocknarea: the iconic limestone hill that dominates the Coolera Peninsula.

But you haven't done it all unless you come for a surf lesson in Strandhill with Sligo Surf Experience.
